Patio Cover FAQs
Can patio covers take the weight of snow?
Can I enclose my patio cover and make it a sunroom?
In order to reduce the buildup of condensation in an enclosed structure you must take the appropriate steps in insulating. Patio covers can be enclosed, however a combination of insulated ceiling and wall panels is required. You cannot simply use insulated wall panels with a v-pan roof as significant condensation will build up on the roof and rain down on the inside of the structure.
If you’re considering enclosing a patio cover (roof with open sides) then it’s best to plan for the inclusion of walls at the layout stage and build the patio cover with insulated roof panels in order to avoid replacing at a later date.
How do you attach a patio cover to a house?
Typically a patio cover is attached to the roof fascia. Gutter sections can be removed and the flashing installed in order to create a waterproof bridge between the house roof and the patio cover roof. As there is a built in gutter within the patio cover, any water running of the roof is now taken care of. Under soffit and roof mounting patio covers are also standard approaches to securing a patio cover to a residence.
How big of a patio cover can you make?
Will a patio cover make it dark in my house?
Combinations of skylights with V-pan (aluminum gauge paneling) will ensure that the shelter from the rain and sun does not inhibit all the light that you are still looking for in your home. These skylights can be laid out at the design stage to line up with windows and doors in order to maximize this sunlight.
