Siding FAQs

Vinyl siding has come a long way since 1974 when the only colours you could get were dusty rose and that awful yellow colour. Vinyl siding is cost effective, durable, and comes in a multitude of colours and styles. Lots has changed in 40 years and it’s highly likely you’ve driven by 20 homes today that you didn’t even realize had vinyl siding.

The answer to this question is really dependant on the condition of the current siding. Sometimes stripping the old siding off is a necessary evil, however if the stucco is in decent shape and not flaking or falling off you may be able to strap overtop. “Strapping” refers to thin strips of wood, situated vertically on 16” centres that give something for the siding to be nailed into. It’s always best to line the strapping up with studs in behind which can be challenging to find in older homes.
