Getting to Know Your Awning Options
Awning FAQs
What’s the difference between a window awning from Modern and those sold in big box stores?
The awnings you find in big box stores are typically made with plastic parts and pieces (most likely made in China) that eventually wear and break. The fabrics are ultra thin and prone to tearing and the selection of sizes and fabric choices are very limited. Modern’s awnings are all made using metal components and using industry leading Sunbrella fabrics. Ultimately the defining difference is that our commercial grade retractable awnings last for years and are covered by a 10 year warranty.
What’s a valance?
A valance is the fabric piece that hangs from the front of the awning that offers more protection from the sun.
Can my window awning stay out in the rain?
Modern’s retractable fabric awnings use Sunbrella fabrics which are water resistant (not waterproof). Having the fabric get wet is not a problem, however ensuring that it dries out, especially before furling the awning is important in order to reduce mold build up.
Is the fabric of the window awning waterproof?
Modern’s awnings use Sunbrella fabrics that are water resistant (not waterproof). They do stand up to all weather extremely well and last for 10+ years.
